This visualization features a map that shows approximate locations of digitized newspapers available in the Chronicling America Historic American Newspapers collection. Explore the newspapers by clicking the dots on the map and access a time slider in the lower left hand corner to interact with the newspaper publishing timeline. This map was created using ArcGIS Instant Apps (external link) software and is updated weekly.

Library of Congress staff created the maps and visualizations referenced on this page using ArcGIS Instant Apps (external link) and Tableau Public (external link) software. Newspaper metadata was harvested via the Chronicling America Application Programming Interface (API).
